Child labor in Mexico
Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography, similar to our Census Bureau, published results on the country’s child labor practices through 2009. Despite a decrease of 17%, the report shows nearly 3.0Million children between the ages of 5 through 17 are in the workforce, as reported in July.Eugenio Polgovsky's THE INHERITORS, currently screening at the Anthology Film Archives in NYC, immerses us in the daily lives of these children who, with their families, survive only by their unrelenting labor.Labels: child labor, mexico, new york city, screening, theatrical release
Centennial of the Triangle Fire
March 25, 2011 is the Centennial of the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire which took the lives of 146 workers,mostly young immigrant women, and galvanized a movement for social justice.
